Hyperwave and In.vision Form Partnership to Provide Critical Intelligence
Tools for Defense and Homeland Security
Agreement brings together two leading providers of intelligence
gathering tools to speed creation and delivery of essential defense
information
June 16, 2004
Hyperwave, a leading provider of collaborative Enterprise Content
Management solutions, and In.vision Research Corporation, the market
leader for XML authoring in the Microsoft Office System, today announced
a cooperative effort to bring the benefits of In.vision’s
XML authoring to Hyperwave’s secure, collaborative environment.
The purpose of the agreement is to meet the immediate needs and
long-term goals of national defense.
"The partnership with In.vision is another example of Hyperwave’s
commitment to deliver real solutions to promote cross-domain intelligence
sharing within the Intelligence Community’s net-centric environment.
This joint effort provides users with a highly-scalable, end-to-end
XML platform for managing the content lifecycle, including web authoring,
document authoring, collaboration, workflow, publishing, search,
and archiving,” said Peter Watson, Vice President at Hyperwave.
"Hyperwave and In.vision are veteran providers of intelligence
solutions, with roots going back to original efforts of the DoD
to use XML for critical information production and sharing. This
partnership resulted from broad support throughout the defense and
intelligence community for our individual, and now combined product
offerings,” said John Friske, CEO of In.vision. "Our
commitment will speed the delivery of critically needed tools to
the men and women that are charged with the safety of this country.”
Hyperwave and In.vision teamed up to deliver a net-centric intelligence
production and dissemination system within the Horizontal Fusion
Project. This system enables agencies to move away from the traditional
book-building model of creating intelligence reports by allowing
users to build smaller, self-contained pieces of information, which
can be assembled into knowledge products. This reusability increases
analysts’ productivity and reduces the development time of
intelligence products. Referencing reusable components and thereby
eliminating the old copy/paste approach helps avoid outdated information.
In.vision’s Xpress Author for Microsoft Word allows users
to author documents in Microsoft Word without concern for the technical
complexity of XML. Documents are then published to Hyperwave’s
Information Server (IS/6) document store and can be browsed and
displayed as HTML with a standard browser. At this point, analysts
can visualize document components and simply reuse them with simple
drag and drop into In.vision’s enhanced Microsoft Word authoring
environment. Analysts also have access to tools for contacting component
owners (i.e. email, chat, video conferencing) when it is necessary
to discuss the impact of changes. Analysts are notified via email
about relevant component changes and additions, ensuring immediate
dissemination of critical information that may materially impact
current and future decisions.
