The new release is on the way: Hyperwave Information Server 5.5

August 02, 2000

The latest version of Hyperwave Information Server will be introduced on August 31, 2000. What's new in Version 5.5?

Read on to find out about the most important improvements:

Single Sign-On Support for Windows

Users are only required to identify themselves once on an NT system. When accessing a Hyperwave Information Server on NT, users with IE5 can be automatically identified by the HWIS without having to enter the password again. Single Sign-On is made possible through NLTM and can run on Windows-based Internet Explorer 4+ clients as well as Windows NT/2000 servers.

SSL with Client Side Certificates

The support of Client Side Certificates under SSL makes it possible to build certificate-based authorization systems, which is especially advantageous for large organizations. Single Sign-On is also made possible through this feature.

Java Interface via LiveConnect

LiveConnect is an interface in the Javascript engine that can be used to access Java programs in the web interface, directly via the Hyperwave templates. This eases the process of integrating the Hyperwave Information Server in existing systems and improves connectivity. The first version of LiveConnect will be available for the Windows NT and Sun Solaris operating systems.

WebDav Support

The Hyperwave Information Server supports the new WebDav standard, which makes it possible for users to save files directly out of an application (e.g. Microsoft Office Application) onto a web server. This is possible without any extra client installation, as long as a WebDav-able application is installed (e.g. MS Internet Explorer 5 or MS Office 2000) on the client.

Other tasks (e.g. creating a folder, deleting, copying, creating shortcuts to files, etc.) can also be completed via this interface.

New User Interface

In 1999, the Fraunhofer Institute conducted a usability study on the Hyperwave Information Server 5.1.1. Based on the results of this study, significant improvements were made to the user interface in version 5.5.

  • Frameset with a hierarchical navigation system and fixed menu column
  • Tab dialogues with "Easy Publish" functionality
  • Expert search
  • "Similar documents" search
  • Operations on search results
  • Query Wizard
  • Time Wizard
  • Business Cards
  • Package Concept
  • "Logo change" function
  • "Create Home Collection" function

Further improvements

In addition to new functions, the new version of the Hyperwave Information Server has been adjusted to work with current technology. Improvements have also been made on system performance and stability:

  • Extreme improvement in overall performance through SmartHeap Memory Management
  • Improved whole-page cache - now available for identified users and multi-language documents
  • New JavaScript Engine (Version 1.5) with increased parallel functionality
  • Option to deactivate Link Management
  • New FT Server architecture with detached indexing process
  • Byte-Ranging to allow for data display during the loading process
