New Release: Client Add-Ons 5.5
April 02, 2001
The Client Add-Ons include Virtual Folders, Java Virtual Folders,
as well as Office Extensions and provide direct access to the Hyperwave
Information Server from Microsoft Windows Explorer and standard
applications, such as Microsoft Office and others.
What's new in this release?
Windows 2000 Support
The new version of Virtual Folders and Java Virtual Folders offers
full Windows 2000 support and can be used on all state-of-the-art
Windows operating systems. From the new installation routine to
online help - all components have been updated to the latest technological
standards.
Note, however, that the Hyperwave Office Extensions
are not supported on Windows 2000. Microsoft Office documents can
be accessed for editing from Virtual Folders or from Microsoft's
Windows Explorer on Windows 2000. Additionally, with webDAV support,
Microsoft Office users can save new documents directly into Web
Folders in Hyperwave Information Server.
New User Interface
The user interface has been completely redesigned to make the client
add-ons as intuitive as possible. Most of the changes can be found
in the Properties dialog for Virtual Folders and Java Virtual Folders,
which now makes it simpler to modify the properties of objects.
In addition, both the Virtual Folders and Java Virtual folders have
a more consistent interface with each other and with the web interface.
The user-friendly names allow for entering multi-lingual, easy-to-understand
terms. For example, instead of Hyperwave-specific attribute designations
such as 'HW_time_created', users are now presented with a straightforward
"Creation Time" message.
Editing directly in the Browser
With the new version of Virtual Folders, Microsoft Internet Explorer
users can now edit documents such as Microsoft Word documents or
Excel sheets directly in the browser and save them on the Hyperwave
Information Server. This dramatically simplifies and accelerates
the authoring and editing process.
Configurable Columns in the Folder View
The columns in the folder view on the right-hand side of Windows
Explorer can now be easily configured. By clicking the right mouse
button, attributes may be added, deleted or moved via drag &
drop operations.
Main Options Dialog
All Virtual Folder settings can now be defined via a single Options
dialog. It is used to manage language preferences, options for uploading
and downloading, version and access control settings, as well as
local server preferences.
Drag & Drop with the Right Mouse Button
The Copy, Move, and Create Link operations are now available for
any number of documents through simple drag & drop initiated
by clicking the right mouse button in conjunction with the usual
Windows applications.
Context-sensitive Help
A context sensitive Help function is now available in the various
clients. This provides help on the particular function or feature
the user is accessing in the client.
