Hyperwave's eLearning Suite Provides Integrated Third Component
to Its Corporate-wide Knowledge Management Offerings
eLearning Suite Reduces Time, Cost Of Training Enterprise Staff
at Multiple Locations
April 23, 2001
Hyperwave Information Management, Inc. today introduced its eLearning
Suite (eLS), an integrated corporate e-learning offering that enables
companies with multiple locations to reduce the time and cost required
to train staff.
Fully integrated with Hyperwave's award-winning knowledge management
and portal offerings, eLS enables the delivery of integrated learning
and knowledge management directly to the workplace through intranets,
extranets and the Internet.
"Integrating knowledge management and e-learning functionality
provides far more compelling value to users than separate stand-alone
systems," said David Yockelson, senior vice president of Meta
Group.
The new offering provides a complete interactive learning environment
in which trainees can access a comprehensive range of material and
reference sources to meet their own individual requirements. eLS
enables easy access to training information through its virtual
training center, where individual functional rooms provide trainees
with access to specific types of information.
"It's clear that true organizational learning is not merely
Web-based training," said Tim Kounadis, Hyperwave's vice president
of marketing for North America. "E-learning, knowledge management
and collaborative portals belong together. By delivering an e-learning
component to complement our knowledge management platform and portal,
we provide a comprehensive approach that handles the entire spectrum
of corporate learning. First by providing a way to package existing
knowledge assets and deploy them in an e-learning framework, and
second by providing a platform for standard e-learning content distribution
and use."
The Hyperwave eLearning Suite eliminates the lack of interactivity
that is the Achilles heel of many e-learning systems. Communication
between teachers, tutors and trainees is maximized through the inclusion
of various channels such as a bulletin board, an e-mail messaging
system and a discussion forum where students can exchange questions,
answers and comments simultaneously.
A key feature of eLS is its use of Active Documents, which allow
trainees to attach questions that are then answered by tutors or
teachers. Over time, a collection of questions and answers is produced
for every document. Course participants may also place personal
or public comments in documents using electronic notes.
eLS contains a background library with more in-depth information
from internal and external sources such as the Internet to provide
a means of finding out more about the course content and to answer
unanswered questions. A search engine (browser) provides rapid access
in the search for key words or in full text of more than 200 document
formats.
eLS's modular structure means that no HTML or programming knowledge
is necessary to create courses on an intranet or the Internet. A course
wizard automatically creates a course outline that includes both the
navigation structure as well as a complete course room environment.
Users can add new learning to the framework using an easy-to-use interface.
A fully automatic link management feature ensures that all links
are maintained in the event of individual course modules being added,
shifted or deleted. The system supports different learning materials
ranging from existing CBT courses to text and presentation documents
to images as well as audio and video files.
As part of the eLS introduction, the company also announced two
key partnerships that strengthen the offering. Imprint Systems is
providing an Interactive Multimedia Collaboration Platform that
offers multiple peer-to-peer streams containing full-duplex voice,
video and data content that supports virtually any collaborative
interaction. Knowledge Transfer International (KTI) is providing
rich custom content for eLS and complementing that with its consulting
expertise in corporate knowledge management and learning implementations.
According to Jon Salva, president of Imprint Systems, Inc., "We
are very excited about our partnership with Hyperwave and its comprehensive
knowledge management offering. By providing human interaction in
the e-learning environment, Imprint Systems brings the traditional
real-world classroom environment to the virtual world, extending
video and audio as an underlying part of a collaborative session.
Our Collaboration Platform delivers true collaboration capabilities
by integrating multimedia applications with interactive functionality."
"We are extremely pleased to be partnering with Hyperwave,"
said Shir Nir, partner and executive director of Knowledge Transfer
International. "Leveraging KTI's experience and expertise in
providing competitive advantage and business value solutions in
the learning and knowledge management arenas with Hyperwave's enabling
technologies is a win-win situation for all of our respective clients."
eLS is fully integrated with the Hyperwave Information Server (HIS)
and Hyperwave eKnowledge Portal (HIP) offerings to provide customers
with a complete knowledge management solution. HIS delivers a powerful
platform for developing intranet and extranet knowledge-sharing
applications. It provides such unique features as bi-directional
link integrity, granular security, document/content management,
collaborative tools, an open API, and universal access from browsers
and desktops. HIP is an out-of-the-box corporate portal solution.
Built on the HIS infrastructure, it offers both aggregation and
collaboration. HIP give users easy access to internal and external
resources, including unstructured, structured and groupware content
on one or many servers.
By delivering all three on a common and open infrastructure, customers
can rapidly provide solutions to their constituents. They can quickly
realize the benefits of this integration including the empowerment
and retention of key personnel; increased awareness of corporate
knowledge assets; and a focused mechanism that enables users to
access information specific to an organizational function and contribute
and collaborate with key communities.
Hyperwave eLS supports multiple languages. It runs on Windows NT/2000,
Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and supports the Oracle 8 database.
The new offering is available immediately.
