Hyperwave gives LBS employees the power of knowledge
Landesbausparkasse Bayern uses Hyperwave Information Server
for new corporate intranet
April 26, 2001
Employees at Bavarian building society Landesbausparkasse Bayern
(LBS) now have immediate access to corporate information following
the launch of a new intranet based on Hyperwave's Information Server
knowledge management software. The intranet puts the 750 employees
at LBS's head office in Munich in touch with over 3,500 HTML, Office
and PDF documents and has already dramatically improved the flow
of information throughout the organisation.
Using Hyperwave's Information Server software has brought a number
of key benefits for LBS:
Simplified publication of content
All content on LBS's intranet is managed by a decentralised editorial
team of 25 people, each responsible for producing content for a
particular department.
Using the Hyperwave Information Server has greatly simplified the
content publication process. The editorial team was taught in just
three hours to use the HIS's template based forms, which enable
information to be arranged and prepared for publication without
having to learn HTML programming skills. Team members can publish
news on ready-made layout pages and place them directly onto the
intranet to keep it constantly up to date.
The four most important messages are automatically displayed on
the intranet start page. The quality of all content on the intranet
is safeguarded by an intranet co-ordinator in charge of the overall
publishing process.
Streamlined access to content
The new intranet has transformed the way that information is disseminated
throughout LBS, ensuring faster and more effective communication
between staff. Information held on the intranet includes LBS's daily
newsletter, contact information and descriptions on LBS's various
corporate divisions and details about employee training.
All information on the intranet can be quickly retrieved using
the HIS search engine, which enables users to carry out targeted
searches for information.
By presenting this information electronically, LBS has been able
to reduce the amount of paper in circulation, saving both cost and
time on producing and distributing paper documents such as brochures
and manuals and simplifying the entire editorial process.
Guaranteed security
Using Hyperwave's software has enabled access to some parts of
the intranet to be restricted to the company's management team.
Each of the 70 members of this team have been allocated with secure
access rights to ensure that only they are able to view certain
documents.
The Hyperwave Information Server allows user privileges to be
set specifying which documents can be accessed by selected individuals
only. These rights can also be assigned to hyperlinks so that each
employee is given a customised view of content on the Intranet whilst
the rest remains hidden. This restricted access also enables team
members to exchange information with one another in secure discussion
forums.
The whole intranet is based on single sign-on user access, which
means that users only have to log on once to their NT system to
access information. This authentication procedure also helps to
safeguard access rights, with users only able to read or modify
data which they are authorised to access.
The future
The improvements brought by the new intranet have convinced LBS
to continue to provide users with additional features. One example
is the planned introduction of a new bulletin board that can be
added to by all employees.
