Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) describes an organization's goal to put their resources to use (such as capital, assets or personnel) in daily operations as efficiently and effectively as possible. Structured information plays a big role in this. Unstructured information such as contracts, invoices, and customer service procedures are often spread out in different document management systems.
It is a challenge for every organization, one which grows more difficult depending on the branch of business and size of the organization, to get an organized and comprehensive overview of their data out of these systems, since they all require special knowledge to operate and the necessary tools for integrating them simply don't exist.
